Versailles: Last weekend I realized that I needed to go inside the Chateau before I leave. I'm glad it was free for me, because it would have felt like a rip-off if I had paid the full price. It's not that the Chateau was boring or ugly or anything.. on the contrary, it was very pretty. But it really just felt like a big empty house, that's all. There's no real furniture because everything was raided during the revolution years. There is a painting collection that is kind of cool. And the ceilings are all very nice - fancy paintings and decorations. And the Hall of Mirrors was cool to walk through. But in all, Versailles was not quite what I expected. I liked the gardens much better. (I went to the gardens a while ago - you can see the garden pictures in a different blog post. The following link only has pictures of the interior).
Auvers-sur-Oise: the tiny country town that Van Gogh moved to at the end of his life. He painted around the town, and there are some plaques up with pictures of his painting right next to the subject itself (see my pictures). It was a very quaint town, very picturesque and homey. We walked up to the top of the hill where there is a grand chateau, and found a place to picnic. (good old bread and cheese!) Also, we ran into a circus and almost got trampled by a bull that was tied up to a tree along the river. Overall a rather pleasant day.
