Ok, I'm getting polititcal today. But I can't help it because the Tea Party disgusts me so much and I get excited when someone takes a jab at it. Also I think this article takes an interesting angle.

Also, James Dean's 55th death anniversary is today. This is an interesting article about James Dean and the romanticization of death. Thoughts?

ReplyDeleteMy problem, or shall I say one of my problems, with the Tea Party is their inability to enunciate a viable solution to the the very problems they are bemoaning. I think Thomas Friedman cuts to the heart of it when he notes that the Tea Party "hasn’t even offered a credible solution for the problem it has identified. How can you take a movement seriously that says it wants to cut government spending by billions of dollars but won’t identify the specific defense programs, Social Security, Medicare or other services it’s ready to cut — let alone explain how this will make us more competitive and grow the economy?" As I've been trying to tell these misguided folks looking for a quick fix to America's woes, "how can you take seriously a movement that sat largely silent while the Bush administration launched two wars and a new entitlement, Medicare prescription drugs — while cutting taxes — but is now, suddenly, mad as hell about the deficit and won’t take it anymore from President Obama?" The Bush Administration spent $1.2 Trillion- more zeros than I know how to type- on two needless and futile wars, that's money you and your generation will have to pay back some day. Where were the Tea Baggers then? Oh, right- they were applauding the Bush Administration for cutting taxes for the wealthy, handing Halliburton, Lockheed martin, and Raytheon sweet military contracts, and neglecting America's real needs. Forget tea- I'll have a cup of joe any time!

exactly! It's a double standard - it was ok for republicans to spend trillions of dollars on causes outside of the country, but now that democrats want to invest inside of the country there's all this fuss. And I would like to hear where exactly the tea partiers want to cut spending without hurting programs that are important for us.
