Health Thought to Live By - Your pH is EVERYTHING!

http://www.trans4mind.com/nutrition/pH.html

So maybe you already knew about this. But I just learned it recently in a conversation about health.

Everyone knows about the pH scale. Your body maintains an overall pH too - like the scale of acid/base. I'm sure there's much more chemistry involved, and I do remember learning about it in school. But that's not my point. I learned that every human's body has a pH reading, and this reading can determine and say a lot about your health.

Your pH is mostly determined by the foods you eat. Different food intake makes your pH vary, depending on how that food breaks down in your body. For example, when you eat eggs or cheese, the nutrients in these foods turn acidic when your body breaks them down. When you eat something like spinach or broccoli, your body gets more alkaline. (The article at the top has a nice little chart that separates alkaline-inducing foods and acid-inducing foods)

The thing is, acidity is bad. Alkaline is good. When your body has higher levels of acidity, it becomes far more susceptible to harmful diseases. On the other hand, alkaline pH levels will fight off diseases and keep you healthier (as well as give you more energy and better sleep). For instance, cancer cells cannot survive in an alkaline pH. They do, however, thrive in acidic pHs. Did you know that? I didn't.

http://www.healingdaily.com/conditions/saliva-ph-test.htm: "Virtually all degenerative diseases, including cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, kidney and gall stones, and tooth decay are associated with excess acidity in the body." "Cancer cannot exist in an alkaline environment."

http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Body-pH-Can-Affect-Your-Energy-Levels&id=4670: this site gives a pretty good chemical and biological explanation of what's happening when we talk about the body's pH level.

Now, I realize that I'm citing various online sources that may or may not be accurate, and it's difficult to know which have official medical backing. And honestly, all I did was search on google for "body pH" and looked through all the pages that came up. But I think it's most important to be aware of the issues here. I invite you to do your own research and make your own conclusions. Because if something as simple as eating healthy foods can prevent major diseases in the long run, why not do it?

Well I must get back to my green tea and spinach/broccoli salad.
